"Kore of Anavyssos"

Archaic statue of a Kore found in a boat covered by a cloth at the beach in front of the salt marshes of Anavyssos, Greece in 1969 (the year I was born).

This funerary statue has never been exhibited since then. I have been collaborating with the artist Marina Stavrou tracing the "Kore of Anavyssos" (as I like to call her) in the hope of seeing her one day. However I am not in any rush. The search for this Kore means a lot more to me than locating the place where she is stored or seeing her with my own eyes. To me she represents a lost memory. Perhaps a memory of a sister that passed long before I was born. A memory I long to find.

The drawings of the Kore are by Marina Stavrou based on the only existing photograph of the statue published in 2007 by archaeologist Olga Tzahou-Alexandri (former director of the National Archaeological Museum).
The last photograph is of my sister Lydia's resting place and a letter written to my parents by a dear family friend.
